Ecosistemi Sonori

Ecosistemi sonori is an open-ended collective sound ecology that investigates the dynamics of collaborative creation, grounded in the principle of sympoiesis — interdependent, co-creative processes. The project involves 18 participants, including musicians, composers, and performers, who contribute sonic materials of any duration or nature. These materials circulate within an algorithmic feedback system based on L-systems, inspired by biological models, where each contribution is reworked by others and returned, generating continuous reinterpretations shaped by individual sensibilities.

By dissolving traditional notions of authorship, Ecosistemi Sonori fosters co-responsibility, trust, and collective engagement. Each stage of the project represents a point of evolution in an ongoing, virtually infinite process, where sound becomes a living, adaptive medium connecting human, instrumental, and technological agents. The proposal can take one of two forms: a live improvisation performance, based exclusively on shared sound materials derived from exchanges within the project, manipulated in real time by a variable number of performers from the 18-member network; or the diffusion of an initial fixed-media work titled Hyphae, an acousmatic piece, which will be presented for the first time at Tempo Reale during the Magnetica Festival 2026, accompanied by a talk on the project. Hyphae also received a Special Mention at Ars Electronica Forum Wallis 2026 and has been selected for the CIRMMT festival in Montréal, Canada, for the 2026–2027 season.

The project was first presented live in a solo set at INNER_SPACES, at Auditorium San Fedele in Milan, on May 24, 2026. In this version, contributions from the network were intertwined in real time with Tesorini’s own acousmatic works, activating a dynamic, spatialized sonic body. The solo format treated each performance as a contingent manifestation of the evolving system, showing how the relational structure of Ecosistemi Sonori can be exposed through a single performative gesture.

The first collective live performance of the project took place on June 17, 2026 at Serre dei Giardini Margherita in Bologna, as part of the Immersive Listening program of Serra Madre, a spatial audio venue, with the support of Tempo Reale. Presented as an open rehearsal rather than a concert in the traditional sense, it was a free improvisation set in sextet, with Riccardo Tesorini (hub and founder of the project), Daniele Carcassi, Biagio Cavallo, Lorenza Ceregini, Andrea Fabris and Simone Grande, drawing exclusively from the shared sound archive of the entire network. The audience was invited to witness not a finished work but an ongoing process, the dynamics of listening, transformation and co-creation animating the ecosystem.

The project unfolds as a relational ecosystem, where participants act as living nodes within a constantly evolving network. In this context, Ecosistemi Sonori becomes not only a sonic experience, but an act of collective creation and sharing, where art, technology, and community intertwine in a living and dynamic process of continuous expansion.
